Since 1987 Anne de Graaf has traveled extensively in Eastern Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa, including Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Tanzania, where she has interviewed villagers, UNICEF, UNHCR and World Vision field personnel, trauma therapists working with children, and stayed in a Tanzanian camp with more than 50,000 refugees, over half of whom were children. For Into the Nevernight she has interviewed international negotiators, and collected quotes from children all over the world who are seeking hope after being traumatized by war. Into the Nevernight placed as Christy Award 2004 finalist for Suspense Fiction.
Anne de Graaf has written more than eighty books which have sold over 5 million copies worldwide and been translated into more than fifty languages. Her Hidden Harvest Series of novels is based on true stories of people in Poland, interviews and intensive research. These books have sold in seven countries. The final book of the series, Out of the Red Shadow, won the Christy Award 2000 for International Historical Fiction. During the 1999 Frankfurt World Book Fair she was awarded the East-European Christian Literature Award.
Anne de Graaf has also worked as a journalist for the Dutch national press agency, and economics translator for the Dutch government. Born in San Francisco and a graduate of Stanford University, she has lived the past 25 years in Ireland and The Netherlands with her husband and their two children. |
