Search for Art

In search of art stolen by the Nazis and “liberated” by the Soviets.

A few years earlier the search began in the Hermitage museum of St. Petersburg. Now it continued to the Pushkin museum in Moscow. It ended in a monastery outside Moscow, where these photos were taken.

Behind this door were hidden hundreds of paintings by such masters as Rembrandt, Renoir, Cezanne, and Matisse.
