Teaching and writing. Suspense novels and children’s books. Listening, speaking to and about young people--these are the tools of Anne’s trade: Words--both written and spoken.

You never know where Anne is. January-March 2012 she lived in Cape Town, conducting fieldwork for her PhD. In the autumn of 2010 she moved to Scotland for nine months to begin her PhD in International Relations at the University of St Andrews. Her research is on the role of young people in conflict and peace building, within a deeply divided society. Since 2009 she has been lecturing at Webster University, Leiden, The Netherlands. In 2011 she revisited her alma mater Stanford University, and spoke on “Engaging with issues that matter.” This year and previously, she also gave talks about “Winning the peace--The power of young people’s voices in places of conflict“ at the following venues: University of the Free State, South Africa; Harvard National Model United Nations, Boston; West Point Military Academy, New York; and Beirut, Lebanon.

Her topics also include children in conflict situations, child soldiers, aids survival, sustaining the writing life---write here, write now, and the power of story. She gives writing workshops for beginners to advanced, including how to weave more suspense into your fiction, and writing from the heart.

Since 1987 she has traveled extensively in Eastern Europe, including Bosnia, and throughout most of sub-Saharan Africa plus Liberia, researching stories about young people in places of conflict. She collects quotes from children all over the world who are seeking hope after being traumatized by war.

A graduate of Stanford University, she has lived in The Netherlands for more than 25 years. She is a member of the British Society of Authors, the Royal Over-seas League in London and Edinburgh, and the Rotary Club Westland-Polanen in The Netherlands.
